The trick with mutual funds is to find an industry that is poised for growth, and the more growth the better. To find the mutual-fund winners so far this year, start by turning last year’s rankings upside down. As the annual mutual-fund performance derby reaches its midpoint, 2000 is looking a lot different than 1999, when tech ruled and Asia’s powerful recovery was gathering force. Does anyone pay attention to the portfolio turnover rate when selecting a mutual fund for investment.
During the last market downturn, I owned two very similar mutual funds. {small cap, high tech, growth funds] One had a 160% turnover rate, the other had a 30% turnover rate. They both dropped about the same amount as the market, but the one with a 160% turnover rate has not recovered very well, while the fund with a 30% turnover is back in the black now.
I have not paid a lot of attention to turnover rates when selecting mutual funds and am curious if anyone has found the turnover rate to be a useful stat when evaluating a fund.

The site is operated by Allied Owners Action fund, a new mutual fund that buys shares in the underperformers it's trying to help out. We applaud their efforts to open the lines of communication between corporate executives and their shareholders. http://www.eraider.com
