Mutual Funds are the best way to invest for people who don't have the resources to buy a great number of stocks allowing the portfolio to be diversified. Index funds are a great way to invest into the market itself and not have to worry about whether the fund is a well managed fund or not. If you are young like I am you'll most likely pick a growth fund which mainly invests its assests into stocks. The best growth funds in my mind are blue chip funds. These funds invest in large compaines that are on solid ground, where their growth is slow but more likely. This is the type of fund I my self being young would invest in for the long haul. Other things to consider are funds that don't charge commision, no sales charge and that have a low expense rate. Having these or having a high expense rate (usually over 1.5%) is taking away from your moneys ability to work. You should consider Mutual Funds and all their options very carefully before investing any money. |

I think asset allocation funds do make sense for some investors. If you don't want to take the time to find the best stock fund for you, the best bond fund for you, decide how much to put in each, decide when to rebalance your portfolio, etc., then asset allocation funds would make sense for you, provided the fund manager knew what was best for you. I don't know what it takes to find a good asset allocation fund, but I'd guess you could use the same types of tools that you'd use to find a good mutual fund of any other type (special mutual fund issue of popular financial magazine, sites like Morningstar, Quicken, etc.) |

To answer a question with a question, what do you think of Asset Allocation type funds. And is there a way to find the best of the bunch? |
