samoht and new guy,

Barron's Online had a favorable article on 3COM on Tuesday, quoting several analysts who think the stock is a good value, though with some uncertainty. COMS is selling at about 25 times current year earnings estimates, which is about a third of Cisco's and half of Lucent's.

The Palm PDA's comprise about then per cent of COMS revenues, and that business is growing at a 100% annnual rate--seven out of every ten PDA's sold are Palms.

If you have a Wall Street Journal online subscription, you can pull up the article at:

http://interactive.wsj.com/archive/retrieve.cgi?id=SB919791754432024500.djm

I saved it as a file and e-mail it to you, new guy.

samoht and newguy,
We also held 3Com, but sold when their revenue growth dipped below 30%. We will keep an eye on future revenue growth, and if they can keep it above 30%, we may buy again. It's tough going up against Cisco!

samoht, I held 3Com a few years ago and it didn't do that well back then, but I think it's well-positioned now. I'm especially impressed with the PalmPilot. You might want to check out Investorville's 3Com board at http://www.investorville.com/ubb/Forum13/HTML/000003.html for other comments on the stock.

I wondered if anyone has any thoughts on the stock 3 com. It seems like a stock which may benefit from the transition from phone lines to cable for fast internet connection. It also is a stock which appears to have room to move toward the upside.

ozturka and Bill Tarr,
It looks like Dixons and Freeserve are definitely getting AOL's attention in Britain by cutting into AOL's sales growth.
Good article on subject at: http://www.msnbc.com/news/238361.asp

Here's another good recent article (2-23-99) on AOL at: http://www.msnbc.com/news/243794.asp

ozturka,
Falling subscription fees are definitely something to watch. But I don't think it's going to be a big issue for AOL or AtHome. AOL charges about the same as other ISPs, and AOL provides a lot of extra content in addition to internet access, whereas the other ISPs just provide internet access... AOL's rates have been almost unchanged over the last several years. AtHome is more expensive, but I don't think they're really feel pricing pressure because their service is so much faster than 28.8/56K, and because they don't have much competition at all (just RoadRunner, which is much smaller).
Maybe techstockinvestor has some thoughts to add to this...

Dear Techstockinvestor,

I read in several articles/research letters that AOL, Yhoo and Amazon are the most recommended stocks for investing

As a foreign investor who has just started to make an in depth research regarding internet stocks , I discovered that web providers like @Home/AOL should consider that there might be a substantial fall in the subscription fees which are paid montly/quarterly/annualy by the corresponding subscribers ,considering that some companies like Dixon(has already started) and British Telecom in UK will provide web service without a fee.I haven't yet checked what portion these fees contribute to the total revenue of AOL, but I assume that it should be worth taking seriously

What do you think?

Thanks in advance for consideration

Bill Tarr,
We would choose the top three stocks on our list: Yahoo, Amazon, and AOL.
The usual reaction we get is: "What? Are you crazy? We've already missed the boat on these stocks! Don't you have any others that haven't taken off yet?"
But we have found that many of the stocks that have had a great run, keep running!

LYCOS lawsuit - the Davis LIE.

Davis and LYCOS should be punished for lying to the public. They never had any intentions of staying independent. I don't trust Davis or Diller at all.

Who knows what they will lie about next or have already lied about. Possibly insider trading?

go to www.milberg.com -(home page of Milberg Weiss) to get in on the lawsuit and bring justice.

techstockinvestor,
If you had to buy three internet stocks tomorrow and couldn't sell them for ten years, which ones would you pick? Thanks...

PRODIGY - ticker PRGY

I just want to thank to people at PRODIGY for their great commericial that has been airing lately.

Finally someone has addressed that AOL is a piece of junk and anyone who uses it is an idiot. If you want to be forced to see popup advertisements every five minutes than use AOL.

PEAPOD - PEAPOD - PEAPOD - PEAPOD - PEAPOD

PeaPod - the only grocer on the internet.
That's right you can now buy groceries over the net. No more waiting in long lines with little kids crying over your shoulder. It's especially ideal for old people, busy people, and rich people who don't have time to be seen at a grocery store.

Ticker symbol it PPOD. Not that many people know about it unless you live in one of the 10 cities that PeaPod is currently in, but they will soon be all over the country. They just opened up a distribution centers in New York and Chicago.

With no competition what so ever and a huge head start on anybody who tries, it's no wonder Piper Jaffray just gave PPOD a strong
buy rating and a target price of $36. It's an absolute steal at the current price of $9. You better buy now cause it wont be long before PeaPod has the national brand recognition it deserves.

Anybody want a 600 MHz notebook computer by the end of this year? WOW!:

Following the Pentium III mobile announcement this September and the addition of 0.18-micron technology, mobile processor speeds will top out at 600 MHz by the end of this year, then jump to 700 MHz in the first half of 2000. With speeds this fast, Intel intends to significantly close the power gap between desktop and notebook processors.

THE LYCOS/USA NETWORK DEAL A SCAM. WE'VE BEEN TAKEN FOR A RIDE.

This whole LYCOS/USA network deal sounded suspicious from the beginning. First they tell the public that it is too confusing and complex to explain to the public what LYCOS shareholders will get from the deal. The after they send the stock plunging they have their buddy from CMGI suddendly change his mind and say the stock price must go up for the deal to go through. But it's a good deal then. He adds. This sends the stock up.

There is obviously some insider buying and selling going on. We have been fooled.

Let me add. I owned the stock before it crashed then sold off. Now what do I do. It's a little late for me to recoup. But at least the LYCOS, USA, and CMGI people will make out on the volatility of the stock. I'm suing those jerks. I'll see in court.
