AT&T Wireless, frustrated that its stock price is languishing in the shadow of beleaguered parent AT&T, is planning to discuss a combination with Nextel Communications, among other strategic options, at a board meeting later this month. A deal with Nextel would create a wireless giant with 18 million customers and tie the company with SBC Communications for the No. 2 spot after Verizon Wireless, a unit of Verizon Communications. In an effort to accelerate the development of its managed web and application hosting services, WorldCom has agreed to acquire Intermedia Communications.
