I found this article very interesting. One of the things you need to do as an investor is look at developments and see what is going to be affected down the road, the second or third-generation impact. If you are good at that, you might have a leg up. Internet infrastructure has been huge for a while now, but what happens as these companies start to go under or consolidate? Demand of rthe infrastructure is going to decrease as they get more efficient or simply stop existing. I think you can see people cooling to this space in the IPO market....Infrastructure plays were the only things doing well for a while, and now Stratos Lightwave has a mediocre start. Thje people getting in now are likely going to be too late to the party--they need a compelling technology or to be acquired.

Of course, one question is where the demand for infrastructure really lies...if you figure more and more people and business are going to be requiring more and more bandwidth into the distant future, maybe the consolidation is not going to have great effects.

Opinions?

Internet Incubator

ATI was incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware in December 1998. The Company is a “start-up” venture, with no operating history, which intends to seek investment and acquisition opportunities in the e-commerce, internet and telecommunications industries. Specifically, ATI believes that strategic opportunities exist to acquire and consolidate small 4th & 5th tier telecommunications companies and provide these companies with broadband service. The Company believes that as the growing reliance on the internet becomes widespread, building a new reliable high-performance backbone and supplying the bandwidth for greater applications will become a priority. Current forms of broadband service such as DSL (Digital Subscriber Lines) are not expected to satisfy the broadband problem.
The Company believes that rural America and certain suburban areas have been overlooked in the expansion of the telecommunications industry and that, as a result, micro-niche markets may exist in rural/suburban areas with populations from 200,000 to 500,000 that do not currently have access to broadband service. ATI’s objective is to identify small, existing 4th & 5th tier telecommunication companies in these micro-niche areas, to acquire such companies and combine them into stronger, regional entities and to provide such companies and their customers with microwave and/or optical laser photon technology. The Company believes that by using the fiber optic backbone that exists today to reach suburban neighborhoods, microwave and or laser signals can bypass traditional copper telephone lines offering broadband service.
