Shares of Lucent advanced 7.3% Wednesday (12/23) following news that the company is trying to double its authorized shares, spurring investor expectation of a stock split, according to a market source. Lucent, which authorized a stock split in 1998, said the increased shares would simply give it the flexibility to split its stock but that it hasn't declared a stock split. Analysts surveyed by First Call project an estimate of $2.52 per share for the year 2000, vs. a projection of $2.09 for fiscal 1999, which ends next September. |

Don’t know about Analog Devices, but check out the Ascend board, they’re discussing the ongoing rumor of an acquisition by Lucent. |
