Telecom provider Lexent designs, engineers, and deploys local access networks for carriers that compete with the Baby Bells in the Northeastern U.S. It also connects its customers' networks with end users and other local and long-distance networks. Lexent serves upstart CLECs and ISPs, as well as industry titans such as AT&T and MCI WorldCom. The company installs fiber-optic backbones, fixed wireless systems, and DSL equipment and also provides network maintenance and upgrades. It expects to raise $86 million and go public soon.
