I would argue that switching costs are extremely high, even if the competing product is free. Most PC users have hundreds or thousands of MS Office applications on their machines (Word, Excel, Access, etc), and send and receive documents from dozens or hundreds of other PC users who all understand that text documents should be in Word, spreadsheets should be in Excel, etc. Switching costs are incredibly high."
