Earnings News Briefs: - National Semiconductor reported 2Q earnings of $0.56 a share, beating analysts' expectations of $0.51. But that was of little consolation to investors, who were more concerned with the company's concurrent warning of 3Q sales, which could decline as much as 10%. Company Name (Ticker): reported, expected, same q last year National Semiconductor (NSM): $0.56, $0.51, $0.37 |

They've been struggling for profitability for about a year now as their revenues have slid. They seem to be turning the corner now. I don't know whether AMD's recent success is a good thing (all's well in the low end semi biz) or a bad thing (stronger competition). |

The ongoing reports of MediaGX and MII design wins make me (cautiously) optimistic. |
