Here's a very positive column from MarketWatch regarding the future for Network Commerce. The author says it's very unfortunate it has the negative e-commerce connotation attached to the company, because of all of the solid financial numbers behind the business. |

ShopNow.com has officially changed it's name to Network Commerce (NWKC). This board has been moved in its entirety from the "S" Folder to this folder, its current location. [Note: This message has been edited by Mayor of Investorville] |

Perhaps the name change will help the company avoid the problem smario pointed out months ago - ShopNow sounds like a site where consumers can buy stuff, but the company is involved in a lot more. One clarification - the press release did not actually say it's expecting profitability by 4Q01, just that this was its goal. Also, they're not talking about actual profitability, just pro forma profitability, which any company can achieve with a few accounting tricks. So while I think the name change is probably a good thing, I wouldn't read too much into their comments on profitability. |

Well, this is pretty big news. ShopNow.com has changed its corporate name to NetworkCommerce (NWKC) to better represent the entire suite of ecommerce infrastructure services. It will be an umbrella corporation that includes among its many business, the ShopNow.com name. Also, it announced an accelerated profitability schedule, looking for profits by Q4 2001. Here's the press release: |

Thanks for the statistics that I've failed to consider. The more I think about it....SPNW is going to be a core stock for my holdings in the next 3-10 years unless some sort of really sour news develops as competition continues to swell. I'll be hanging in... |

I don't think they've said when they expect to be profitable (correct me if I'm wrong). If they were thinking short-term, they could get to profitability very quickly (they lost $21 million last quarter, and spent $22 million on sales and marketing)... but this would obviously be a disaster for their long-term growth. Investors are starting to push etailers and etail enablers to show a profit, so I wouldn't be surprised if ShopNow reduces its marketing costs somewhat in the coming quarters. |

Bottom line......when is profitability in sight? Monitoring position and hoping for the best. SPNW is on to something....their concepts are all probable successes. Their suite of services (b2b and/or b2c) are necessaries for the future of web commerce. Go shopnow.com..... |

Here's the earnings report: Good increase in margins, revenue, and total customers. Earnings beat the estimate of $.49 by reporting eps of $.41. |

Sorry I didn't include this in the last post but I just ran across this blurb in the news...."ShopNow.com CEO Dwayne Walker states, "ShopNow.com believes that it has a high leverage business model, and once we hit our break-even and profitability point we will be able to offer very, very attractive gross margins on a very sustainable basis."" Boy, oh boy, I can't wait for Christmas.... |

Agreed.....more power to the b2b side of life. For our sakes, what we really need is a positive EPS and a healthy P/E ratio that doesn't trail the stock price. What is the concensus on what we will see during the next round of declarations? I have read when the cash flow is expected to run out but I haven't read when the company expects to break out into the black.......go ShopNow go! |
