A number of leading U.S. e-commerce merchants and payment processing companies (including American Express, Buy.com, and Expedia) announced Monday the formation of the Worldwide E-Commerce Fraud Prevention Network, an industry coalition aimed at reducing Internet-based fraud. The coalition intends to use the newly formed network to share fraud prevention information and practices with merchants in order to improve Web security and reduce the costs associated with fraud. I recently read this press release about American Express' new credit card.
"The card - called Blue - contains a smart chip that gives customers additional Internet transaction security when used with a smart-card reader. Blue can also be used
as a traditional credit card. In November, customers will be able to register on the American Express site for an online-wallet application to store their personal financial data."

What am i missing here? I'll need a 'smart card reader' for making totally secure online purchases. That would mean I need to purchase one of these things from my home.
And why do I want to give American Express more of my financial information?
Also, I'm not sure if I got the info wrong on an ad I saw for this card this weekend. It said you could pay now or pay later, that its a flexibile credit card. Isn't that how all cards work? You pay now, pay when its due, or pay later. Of course there are lots of reasons to pay when its due. I can't think of any reasons to pay way before its due or after its due (unless you are such a great investor that you can return more than the APRs they are charging which is quite difficult)
Does American Express think they can sell more cards just by saying that things are 'new' or somehow connected to the internet? maybe so... but i'm not buying it.

Warren Buffett bought about a million shares of AXP in early October. Yet another coup for the great one. Bought around 70, now it's above 100. I guess that means if it drops back to 70 on no news, we should be buying too
