The company distributes motion pictures, primarily independent ones such as the Blair Witch project. Nearly two-thirds of sales come from the company's library of films for the home video entertainment market. It distributes films for theaters and television, and produces movies. Artisan Entertainment is expanding into DVDs. The company was formed in 1997 when a group led by Bain Capital acquired home video distributor LIVE Entertainment.
