More bad news for Qualcomm:

"The Comp stayed green despite its beating from Qualcomm. Chase Hambrecht & Quist released a research note on Qualcomm saying the company has 'no positive news in sight,' and lowered its estimates, initiating a price target of 50. Chase H&Q said Qualcomm's CDMA-only strategy will hurt the company because CDMA probably won't be deployed in China for at least three years, if it is ever deployed. It will also be hurt by lower-than-expected CDMA handset sales, lower-than-expected chipset margins and handset royalties, and the potential impact of the fall of Globalstar, in which Qualcomm has a stake. TheStreet.com covered possible problems with Qualcomm in a story yesterday."

Anyone who knows the industry should have seen this coming. Apparently all the analysts who originally jumped on the bandwagon have no understanding whatsoever of this industry.

If that were to happen, I doubt Qualcomm will be able to say hi to the 1000 mark. Technology changes so fast - I don't know how any analyst can predict that current technology will dominate ten years from now.

Ah, it feels good to be right. Word is that the reason for the rapid stock drop on this stock is largely due to the fear its wireless phone technology may not be the market killer some thought. To even think about that outlandish 1,000 point target, the stock would have to go up 4-fold, split adjusted. I would love to see Walter Piecyk try to justify his rating now, though I doubt he will face the music.

from the current Upside:
"Certainly one of the great stock stories of 1999, Qualcomm's real value lies in its intellectual-property position and integrated-circuits business, which benefits from the global subscriber boom. The major wild cards are the role of CDMA (code division multiple access) in third-generation wireless networks, and whether the standard becomes more widely adopted in Europe and Asia -- which would help increase CDMA market share."

Wireless Plays worth checking out!!

Timeliness Wireless Picks of the week

(CICI) Communication Intelligence Corp. Now at $9 as of close Monday
(6 mos. Target $20)
A must own wireless software company. (See Partnered Report by SMRM )

(STMI) STM Wireless Corp. Now at $10.375 as of
close Monday (6 mos. Target $32)
A well diversified broadband and wireless backbone play.

(CICI) <<<>>>>

Today's research report is on another wireless infrastructure play about
to make a Qualcomm type run CICI stock has run from $2 per share to as
high as $11 recently
in the last 3 months. However, it has pulled back a bit since then,
allowing re-entry at a reasonable technical level. Check the 3 month chart
here for a glimpse
as of Friday's close. Notice the "pullback" to $8 range is right on top of
"support levels" for the stock. Also, the stock has fallen down on reducing
volumes, not rising volumes. Several days ago it spiked to $11 range on
huge
volume, some of those people are selling now. Rather short sighted, but
that's the typical small investor...used to be me. http://quote.ragingbull.com/quote.cgi?1003=CICI&mode=c

CICI is smack dab in the middle of the wireless revolution that is
unfolding. Smart Phones, PDA's, Palm Pilots, Cell phones, you name it.
Call them what you will, they are the future of accessing the net and
databases of corporations, e-commerce etc. That big PC on your desk at home
or the office is OLD SCHOOL. Dragging around that laptop is going to seem
funny in a few years. So lets make sure we own the companies poised to
benefit from this explosive trend. This is a brief on what they do from a
recent press release:

Communication Intelligence Corporation (CIC) is the leading supplier of
natural input and electronic signature solutions for wireless Internet and
e-Commerce applications. The Company's core software technologies include
multilingual handwriting recognition systems, dynamic signature
verification, natural messaging, and operating system extensions that
enable
pen input. CIC's products are designed to increase the ease of use,
functionality, and security of wireless electronic devices ranging from
handheld companions to cellular phones. Key licensees of the Company's
technologies include Ericsson, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Microsoft, Mitsubishi, and
National Semiconductor. CIC is headquartered in Redwood Shores, California
and has a joint venture, CICC, in Nanjing, China. For more information,
please visit our website at www.cic.com.

Yeah, it’s a mouthful. Bottom line, they have "jot" recognition
software that has a patented user interface, allows handwriting to replace
a
keyboard. Also can translate chinese characters as well. They have a
division in China that they are 90% owners of, 10% owned by the Peoples
Republic of China. Their Pen Computing solutions are part of the Symbian
Alliance. This alliance is made up of the giants Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola,
Psion, and Matsushita. Together, Symbian makes up 80% of all mobile devices
and future smart phones. Symbian will provide solutions and operating
systems for smart phones and wireless communicators. Good company to be
with as the single solution.

CICI also has "Sign It" signature software for digitally encrypted
signature certificates. Integrated with Verisign, the market leader in
wireless digital security encrypted devices worldwide. They also have an
alliance with ADOBE, this alliance will basically push the world away from
paper to paperless documentation

CICI has Licensees with the names, National Semiconductor, Symbol
Technologies (Just bought by INTEL...hmmmm), Vtech, WACOM, Hitachi,
Fujitsu,
Microsoft (for windows CE), Compaq, Ericsson, Nortel. WOW!!! They also
include Citrix Systems, Verisign, and the Palm Computing Platform as
alliances in their pockets.

CICI has spent the last many years pouring money into research and
development, positioning themselves for explosive growth in an exploding
end-demand market. Allying themselves with all the big name partners
worldwide. Setting up shop in China 7 years ago has given them the clear
lead there. They recently inked a deal on Jan 31 with the largest personal
computer maker Legend Holdings to license their software pen computing
solutions. These solutions will be deployed in applications for hand held
devices. They will incorporate CICI chinese handwriter technology on
Windows CE Palm size PCs. They will begin shipping in Q1 2000 and sold in
China. The cost of R and D in China is magnitudes less than what it would
run in the U.S, and much of it is finished. The applications are
limitless. A key consideration in a tech stock I invest in. Patent
protected technology is also key, and they have that.

What are the goals here? CICI wants to be the embedded software
solutions systems for as many wireless devices as possible around the
world.
They will collect royalties for every device sold with their software in
it.
They will reduce paper documentation across corporations and employees and
customers by working with Adobe. The CEO is a former GE executive that was
purposely recruited by the Board of Directors to get the company technology
out to the big guns. They will replace the need for a keyboard, they can
translate characters, they can digitally encrypt signatures for e-commerce
and database access by employees and consumers.

Valuation is not cheap. 80 million shares outstanding, stock price
around $8 1/2 per share is 640 million market cap. Revenues are not even 5
million per year. Nosebleed territory, but it reflects the potential for
explosive growth going forward. Anyone recall what happened with Qualcomm
stock in 1999? Went from 6 to 200. So who the heck knows what fair value
is? But I do not what a trend is, and I do know what end user demand could
and will be, and I can recognize big name partners.

As always, do your own due diligence before investing and check with an
experience financial advisor.
This is only a starting point for you. Below are some good links to help
you out, just fasten your seatbelt because you wont believe how well
positioned they are.

EPOC operating system solution adopted (Symbian alliance software) http://www.cic.com/company_overview/news_events/event.asp?NewsId=52

Handwriting recognition software adopted by Symbian http://www.cic.com/company_overview/news_events/event.asp?NewsId=54

Adoption by Chinese company legend holdings of CICI Chinese handwriter http://www.cic.com/company_overview/news_events/event.asp?NewsId=48

National semiconductor deal and QNX software alliance http://www.cic.com/company_overview/news_events/event.asp?NewsId=44

Deal with WACOM, largest tablet manufacturer in the world! http://www.cic.com/company_overview/news_events/event.asp?NewsId=38

The list goes on and on. PHONE.COM is another company that went IPO last
summer and is the gorilla of operating systems for cell phones that allow
wireless web access. Now, if CICI was going public today with their
credentials, it would debut at $200 per share in this crazy market I'm
sure.
These small caps are great, as yet undiscovered by the public....

(STMI) STM Wireless

A company that has been launching satelites since the 1980’s and has set
up broadband networks and sold their products in 90 countries. Recently
two European investment firms Telfin SA a susidiary of Belgiums Tractbel
and Luxembourg based investment group N.I.T. put up 45 million to help
fund a new subsidiary called Skyonline which will be 45% owned by STMI.
This subsidiary will be focused on rapid expansion into the booming Latin
American wireless market which is outperforming the US in new handheld
sales almost 3 to 1.

Did I mention the company trades at 2x sales with a 73 million dollar
market value. So the company is in a new stage of its corporate life, it
has the backbone experience it takes to earn contracts in the digital
marketplace with new developments which have only begun to take a
foothold. They unveiled their new Spaceweb broadband VSAT platform at
Telecom 99 in October and landed a big contract from Ji Tong of China
worth millions.

Also two major holders around this level Pequot Capital and Dimensional
Fund Advisors both very sharp investment advisory and management firms
which are heavily entrenched. Pequot also invested 13.75 million in
Skyonline.

See their news releases
http://www.stmi.com/pressrel3.html

also take a look at their chart it is a definate pullback due to decrease
in volume which signifies a buying opportunity. With an overall value of
73 million and a venture value plus future revenues put it at 250 million
overall value. Three times this level by year end is definitely doable.

Chart and Quote from Raging Bull http://quote.ragingbull.com/quote.cgi?1003=STMI&mode=d

(RSAS) we said would be buying at $52 one week later $62.875

(CNTR) we said $8.50 we reiterated a buy one week later $14.625

(SCLN) a $9 Biotech shot up to $13.125 a few days later

Any comments or compliments always welcome,

Chiefbullish

China has delayed plans to build a digital mobile-telephone network using Qualcomm's CDMA technology, according to today's Wall Street Journal. Sounds like a political tactic. QCOM is down 6% on the news.

Qualcomm will allow Chinese telecom companies to use the company's wireless technology, clearing the way for Qualcomm's standard to finally break into the lucrative Chinese market and perhaps the rest of Asia.
