More great news for Siebel fans: Siebel is up 10 this morning (in extended hours trading) after announcing that IBM will run Siebel software for its 55,000 internal users and 30,000 business partners. Siebel said that this is the largest deal it has ever booked (and Siebel has booked some pretty big deals before). Onward and upward! |

I hate to sound like a broken record here, but Siebel rocks! They just blew any earnings expectations yet again. Analysts were looking for 15 cents a share, so Siebel delivered 19. Their quarterly reports are financial poetry. http://www.siebel.com/news-events/releases/012500_q499earnings.html |

Acquisition! Siebel Systems today said it has acquired OnTarget in a stock-for-stock deal worth $259 million. Under the deal, Siebel said it will combine OnTarget's suite of training programs and professional services for sales and marketing with Siebel customer relationship management (CRM) applications, or software that automates a company's sales, marketing and customer service needs. Under terms of the deal, each outstanding share of OnTarget common stock will be exchanged for approximately 0.3078 of Siebel stock. This will result in approximately 3.7 million additional Siebel shares worth about $259 million based on Siebel's closing price yesterday of $70, the companies said. San Mateo-based Siebel said it has partnered with OnTarget since 1996 to integrate its software that helps companies train salespeople into Siebel's product line. To date, the Siebel Target Account Selling module has been licensed to more than 100,000 salespeople. The companies said they will deliver an integrated product by the first half of next year. Atlanta-based OnTarget will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Siebel, the companies said. OnTarget chief Alston Gardner will become the vice president and general manager of OnTarget. |

Another great partnership... Front office software leader Siebel Systems today said it has formed a partnership with e-commerce software company BroadVision to jointly deliver products and services that enable companies to build and maintain relationships with their customers. Under the terms of the alliance, the companies said they will jointly develop, sell and market resources to push the adoption of integrated BroadVision and Siebel products so that their customers will be able to quickly deploy personalized e-business applications that share customer information with their sales, marketing and customer service systems. Both Siebel and BroadVision said their products will work together so that businesses will be able to share customer information across all channels. For example, when a user interacts with a BroadVision-powered Web site, the customer information captured in BroadVision will automatically be combined with customer information in Siebel front office applications. BroadVision makes software that customizes Web sites according to each visitor's behavior, including their buying habits, product and service interests, and preferences. BroadVision software then automatically adjusts the information the user receives to best match their interests and needs. With Siebel's front office applications, companies can provide a consistent customer experience across all channels, whether the customers interact with them in person, over the telephone, through a reseller or via the Net. Both companies said they expect to make the joint Siebel front office applications and BroadVision e-commerce software available to their customers in the first calendar quarter of 2000. |

Ariba said it formed an alliance to integrate its solutions with Siebel Systems' front-office applications. The companies say the alliance will let customers share information between their Ariba eCommerce solutions and Siebel's sales, marketing and customer service systems, integrating the selling, purchasing, delivery and service processes online. Ariba makes software that lets companies' employees order equipment, and printing services over the Internet in a process that seamlessly captures the orders and directs them to the appropriate supplier. The companies said the alliance will enable them to offer more effective, profitable, and streamlined business to business solutions over the Internet. |

Last week, Peoplesoft bought Vantive. This week, Nortel (!) bought Clarify. Siebel now has no standalone competition, i.e. no one else is wholly focused on CRM. Winning is fun! |

They're reporting after the close today. They've never let me down before, and I don't expect them to this time, either. |

Bank of America upgraded SEBL from buy to strong buy this morning. While it's a little puzzling (to those who don't understand how the analyst's mind works) why they would wait for the stock to go from 17 to 75 and then upgrade it, it's still better to be right eventually than not to be right at all... |
