The CEO's wife of 52 years, Phyllis Redstone, filed for divorce last week in Massachusetts. She is seeking $3 billion, which would be the biggest divorce settlement ever. Now obviously on the surface, this is his personal business and shouldn't have any effect on Viacom whatsoever. However, realistically, we live in a country that is addicted to scandal. How does the average shareholder react to something like this? It seems the wife waited until the best time to do this (she threatened divorce the last time Viacom had big merger news) - so some shareholders may wonder if he can't read his own wife and is taken advantage by her, how can he successfully merge the two companies? I don't know, it probably won't matter, but you never know with this country... |
