In less than six months after going public, CAIS has signed agreements to install its high speed internet solution in 887 hotels and 140 multi-dwelling unit properties, acquired a software company (Atcom) that will help deploy its solution more economically, joined Intel's Internet Service Provider Program and secured high profile strategic investment from Qwest Communications. Analysts are looking for $10 million in revenue this year, $40 million next year and $85 million the following year. This company is moving fast.

CAIS, now hovering around the 11 range, will announce today that Qwest is investing $15 million in the company at a price of $12 a share. In addition, CAIS, will also announce that it will purchase 44 million IRUs, or bandwidth units, from Qwest, basically meaning that CAIS will have the right to that dedicated amount of bandwidth for 20 years. CAIS announced earlier Wednesday that it signed an agreement with Bass Hotels & Resorts. The deal lets CAIS install its high-speed Internet access products in an initial 60 Staybridge Suites by Holiday Inn properties. CAIS Internet will hook up an initial 6,700 units in 60 cities nationwide. The company already has arrangements with Hilton, Radisson and others, and has its service available in 887 hotels and more than 200,000 rooms in the U.S. I didn't really see anything different in this company to begin with, but it seems like they are really carving out (and finding success in ) a nice and virtually untapped niche for themselves.

OK, I'm surprised. First trade was at 25. I guess eToys is getting all the attention today.

Given current market conditions, I would be surprised if the first trade was less than 30. This company doesn't sound terribly revolutionary, but neither was OneMain (they aren't even an ISP, but merely an IDEA for an ISP), and they managed to hit 30...

Bear Stearns priced CAIS' 6 million-share
IPO above-range at $19 a share. I would be surprised if it closed much higher than that. Anybody know how the last 'strictly ISP' faired in an offering?

I guess their jacks are a nice value added service, but to me, they seem like a run of the mill ISP. Does anyone know anything about their network, peering arrangements, NAP presence, etc.? Should we get excited at yet another ISP going public? If that's their only gig, I would have expected they would have been bought by now (by a telecom company looking to increase their network and subscriber base, for ex.)

CAIS Internet Inc sells special phone jacks which enable multiple internet and phone connections from a single jack. CAIS has its jacks in about 2000 apartments and 2000 hotel rooms and an agreement for a nationwide rollout with Hilton.
