I'd say that I've seen Cisco listed on 8 out of every 10 "Stocks to Watch" Lists that have been published. It may be simplistic to say so, but I really think that if Cisco starts to go south, then it may truly signal the start of a market downturn or correction. But as long as Cisco stays strong, as most people think it will, it and the other strong tech stocks will continue to lead the market into new territory. |

Did people really think that Cisco was just going to roll over when the new competition came to town? Was there ever any doubt that Cisco would come out with something revolutionary? This is the reason Cisco is continuously the market leader, always a few steps ahead of everyone else. And doesn't there $100 seem cheap compared to the 200 levels of their 'new' competition still benefitting from recent IPOs? |

I just found this in Interactive Week, thought it was worth sharing with the group: "Potentially beating back the first real threat to its dominance in the Internet market, Cisco Systems today, Dec. 13, will unveil a new generation of its router that equals the performance and capacity of recently introduced equipment from several start-ups looking to topple the network giant. Sources familiar with the company's plans said the Gigabit Switch Router 12016 is the bigger and faster successor to the GSR 12000, which controls about 87 percent of the Internet backbone market. The latest product, however, dwarfs its predecessor in capacity and scales to the same terabit-per-second range as equipment recently announced by Avici Systems and Nexabit Networks, which was purchased by Cisco's chief rival, Lucent Technologies. Sharing the same operating system and components as the GSR 12000, Cisco's new router will provide the hundreds of service providers with investments in Cisco's gear with a natural migration path, according to Joe Skorupa, an analyst at the Ryan Hankin Kent research firm. "It provides investment protection for Cisco's current customers," he said. In addition to raw capacity exceeding 5 terabits per seconds, the new router will feature interfaces capable of transporting information in 10-gigabit-per-second chunks. Next-generation service provider Qwest Communications International announced last week that it is using Cisco's equipment and interfaces, known in networking nomenclature as OC-192 (10-Gbps) ports, to construct a hyperfast link in its network from New York to San Francisco. Cisco's announcement could come as bad news to start-ups such as Avici, Ironbridge, Nexabit and Pluris, which had hoped to take advantage of Cisco's continued absence in the high end of the market." |

Cisco Systems, Inc. provides networking solutions that connect computing devices and computer networks. These allow people to access or transfer information without regard to differences in time, place or type of computer system. Cisco's strategy is to provide end-to-end networking solutions that customers can use to a) build a unified information infrastructure of their own, or b) to connect to someone else's network. An end-to-end networking solution provides a common technical architecture that allows network services to be consistently provided to all users on the network. The Company markets its products through its direct sales force, distributors, value-added resellers and system integrators. This multiple-channel approach allows customers to select the channel that addresses their specific needs and provides the Company with broad coverage of worldwide markets.
