Corvis blew the doors off revenue expectations yesterday, but with no new customers announced, analysts are less than thrilled with the news. (source: Light Reading) http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?site=lightreading&doc_id=4920

Five years ago, if somebody told you a networking company with no revenues and a secret product would go public and attain a $37 billion valuation within a week, you would have told them they were crazy. That's the case with Corvis, a recent IPO with a market cap almost as big as GM. (source: Red Herring) http://redherring.com/investor/2000/0810/inv-pc081000.html

They have more than doubled their expected pricing range, an unbelievable sign of strength. TyCom did the same thing today and had a solid outing. This means the pop might not be as large as one might hope, and that the individual investor might not have a great investment opportunity, however.

Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead. Ciena is pulling a standard industry move - suing now is a sign of their fear. Ciena and others should fear Corvis.

Corvis has more than two customers - they've announced two. Two others are awaiting announcements. Corvis will likely have one of the largest order backlogs ever for a new issue. Leave it to Dr. Huber to break new ground in the business world. Ciena was just the start for him, Corvis should be even better.

The company makes switching and routing equipment that forms the backbone of high-bandwidth optical networks. The company currently has two customers -- Broadwing Communications and Williams Communications -- but plans to expand its marketing and sales efforts worldwide. The company plans to go public soon and hopes to raise $400 million (source: SEC filing).
