The e-commerce model isn't as compelling as books as for drugstore items. The idea of a drugstore is convenience: you want it now. The exception is prescription drugs that you get filled on a regular schedule and prescription and OTC drugs that you're too embarrassed to buy in a physical store.

Drugstore.com sells nearly 20,000 health and beauty products and sundries. It takes orders for prescription drugs, sends refill reminders by email, and offers detailed drug information. Drugstore.com has contracted pharmacy benefits manager RxAmerica to fill the prescriptions. Amazon owns 44% of the company, and VC giant Kleiner Perkins owns 29%. The company has filed to go public but the IPO date has not been set yet. (source: SEC filing)
