Good analysis, Dr. Dan. I agree that E*Trade is doing well, as evidenced by yesterday's earnings report (revenues up 112% over the same quarter last year). I'm still nervous about all the competition, especially Schwab and Merrill Lynch. While I don't think E*Trade will ever own the online financial services market, it looks like they'll be one of the major players. |

The U.S. Office of Thrift Supervision approved the purchase of internet savings bank Telebanc by E-Trade. E-Trade agreed last June to buy Telebanc for $1.8 billion in what was the first combination of an online bank with an online broker. http://www.techweb.com/wire/story/reuters/REU20000111S0010 |

EGRP has experienced a rather terrible eight months eventhough Etrade has done many great things like global expansion and earnings improvements. Why is this? Some people say interest rates and merger concerns have played a part in EGRP's down fall. Some people even say its a conspiracy; the big institutions are keeping EGRP down. Well what is the reason? No one really knows. There are many theories why OLBs have missed out on most of this years rally. And, I'm sure there isnt just only one reason anyways. The questions I focus on isnt why is this happening but when and why it's going to end. Here is a list of why EGRP will rise again and very soon. 1.) Y2k will be over in a couple of days. 2.) Tax selling to take a loss for the year will be over. 3.) Because of continued record volume numbers EGRP will blow away earnings. 4.) EGRP has expanded globally. Etrade has or will have sites in United Kingdom, Germany, France, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, Korea, South Africa, Canada, Isreal, Japan, and everyday they look for opportunities to expand even more. 5.) Etrade has made hundreds of millions of dollars on their investments this quarter. 6.) Their account growth and name recognition is awesome. 7.) This year Etrade is sponsoring the half time show at the Super Bowl. 8.) The rest of the Market is overvalued. Sector change from tech stocks to finacials is coming soon. 9.) Etrade and Telebank merger is almost complete. 10.) A lot of analyst are finely coming around. Upgrades are hopefully going to happen soon. There is no real reason for them not to happen. 11.) EGRP is over 50% from its high eventhough they have hundreds of thousands more accounts and they are earning much more than a year ago. 12.) Etrade isnt showing profit but they could if they wanted to. According to my shareholder's report Etrade has spent 301 million dollars so far on advertising and marketing this year. They have only showed a total loss of 54 million. That's almost 250 million dollars difference. All they have to do is cut spending and profits are made. Profits are not very important to Etrade at this point. Account growth and name recognitions is more important to them now and they are kicking butt in those areas. Etrade will rise very soon. The numbers and success of a company do not lie. Coming Jan 11, the date of the earnings report, the truth will prevail and everyone will start seeing the truth. Etrade is on its way to becoming the MSFT of the financial world. If any other member can add anything else to why EGRP will rise again and very soon, please do. Patience will pay off very soon. So you wanna be a millionaire, sign up a new account with E*Trade and then guess where the Dow will be at the end of the year. Actually the contest might be closed by now, but i thought it was an interesting way to get new accounts. I wonder if it will pay off. New accounts are probably worth a few hundred dollars to them. Assuming that's true, they'd only need a few thousand people to sign up to make this win $1 million campaign to be profitable. |

The most recent post in this board was made on 11-12-99 by newsman. "On the other hand, E*Trade is gaining market share, and its marketing costs are under control - in the latest quarter it spent just $200 to acquire each new account, well below the industry average of $350. I don't expect it to ever catch Schwab, but I think it's well on its way to building a very profitable business." |
