They may just want access to the inventory and customers. Remember, eBay specializes in providing a marketplace for second-hand items, and the Half.com inventory fits right in.

Any opinions on this acquisition? I'll have to learn more before I formulate my opinion, but my gut reaction says it doesn't make sense. eBay = Auctions. As they expand into other areas, will they lose their focus? Will their brand get diluted? Will their margins come crashing down? This is a strategic gamble.

I can't say I really understand it...ebay announced its wireless initiative today, ebay eevrywhere...Now, with so many companies I understand the desire to be online all the time--yahoo so you can get email or check your portfolio, sportzone so you can get the scores, but, eBaY? Now, I can't say I have ever done the auction thing, but why would you feel the need to have access to eBay all the time? maybe if you know you'll be away from the computer and don't want to miss the close of some auction you've bid on, but that is about it. maybe it is just my ignorance, but this doesn't seem to be a huge necessity for ebay to me. And yet, a 15% jump today--a negative day for the markets. interesting.
